VOLUNTEER PROFILE
Name: Poe Dameron
Age: 32
Physical Appearance: link
Point in Timeline: the middle of last jedi, after (highlight for spoilers) poe commits mutiny and takes over the bridge of the resistance ship.
World Description: Star Wars: The Last Jedi | Star Wars: The Force Awakens | Futurology
History/Background: Poe Dameron

Time Spent Across Multiverse: Poe only spent five months with Hathaway, but his time there shaped him in a lot of ways.

+ He spent at least the first two months there butting heads with Rey about her decision to, as he understood it, "train" with Kylo Ren, due to his own very negative opinions about him. Over time and repeated exposure, he learned to begrudgingly accept Rey's efforts to … befriend (AS FAR AS HE KNOWS??) Kylo Ren, and is capable of working with him very tentatively. In addition, spending time with Rey helped him develop some of his more latent leadership skills (i.e., pushing her to make smarter choices, even though they're both only working with about one braincell.)

+ After spending time and forming friendships with other "leaders" like Keith and Scott Summers, he learned to be a little less reckless and step back before throwing himself into things full-tilt. I mean, he still does most of the time, but occasionally he'll stop and think about it now.

+ In that vein, maybe the most important change for Poe after his time in Hathaway came about from his friendship with Thrawn. An Imperial officer from the opposing side of a war (or at least, from the war his parents fought in), he kept their conversations strictly about their time in Hathaway and guided him to think more pragmatically. He helped him work through his guilt about losing the bomber fleet to destroy the dreadnought, suggesting that the ends justified the means and that he made the best choice he knew how to make at the time. Thrawn's willingness to confide in him about his own personal matters and admitting that his incentive had nothing to do with the Empire (with the suggestion that it was about trying to save a single person — something relatable to Poe), made Poe believe that there was some ounce of goodness in him. (Maybe he's like Finn?) Anyway yeah, because of Thrawn he's worked very hard to gain more awareness and foresight, while also grappling with the idea that the sometimes the Right Thing to Do is uglier than he'd like it to be.

+ His friendship with Thrawn (which was broken off by Thrawn when he realized that Poe gave information about himself that he'd shared in confidence to Rey) was a point of contention in his friendship with Rey and his relationship with Finn, because they thought he was being manipulated. This was never really resolved with Finn, since he transferred shortly after a huge blow-out argument between the three of them.

+ A lot of his friends transferred during and presumably after the last mission (i.e. before the endgame), so he'll probably arrive in Zhautas feeling very much like the "I don't need friends, they disappoint me" Vine.

Noteworthy Positive Characteristics:
+ Brave - He has the no fear gene. In the novels, it's explained that he programmed the Resistance's ship to jump to hyperspace through the Supremacy as a last ditch effort to buy the Resistance time. Maybe this is tied to his recklessness below, but he's always willing to do dangerous things that may or may not actually pay off for him. Breaking out of prison on a ship he's never flown before, stalking First Order ships, going against direct orders repeatedly … he's not afraid to do anything.

+ Loyal - There's a Star Wars kids book that says "Poe will do anything for Leia" and I was like wow that's a bold statement, but it's true. He is SO DEDICATED to Leia Organa. He committed mutiny because he believed that Admiral Holdo was going to drive the Resistance into the ground and he wanted to protect Leia's vision. Even if you're not Leia, once you become his friend and gain his trust (the bar is very low for that), he'll do anything for you. He's very ride or die. Also in the novels, after Finn saved his life he was like "I WILL DO ANYTHING FOR FINN" inside, so.

+ Idealistic - Poe wants to believe the best in people. When Finn pulled him out of First Order prison, he could have treated him with contempt or only helped him so far as getting them both out of the Starkiller base, but he immediately started treating him like a friend instead, giving him a name instead of a number  and I think that's beautiful. Also, his mother instilled in him from a young age the idea that the galaxy is fundamentally good and everything balances out in the end.

+ Charismatic - Leia's own take on Poe (in the comics) is: "Maybe you are the best pilot in the galaxy. but that's not all i see in you. I think you're one of those rare beings who help other people fight. Who will inspire, and give hope when all seems lost, and convince our people to keep going when they don't think they can." And he does. His squadron trusts him thoroughly. They didn't have to choose to follow him into the Resistance from the Republic or to follow him further on dire missions in the comics. He gives them the option to opt out frequently, but they choose to stay out of faith in him. Then there's how he convinced several Resistance members to mutiny just because they believed in his (and Leia's) vision.

Noteworthy Negative Characteristics:
+ Reckless - Poe does not think about the consequences of his actions. That's it, that's the bullet point. He does things like going after a First Order freighter while pretending to be "on patrol" or not pulling back from a losing battle against a dreadnought.

+ Stubborn - Once he has his own ideas about something, it's hard, if not impossible, to get him to back down from it. He didn't trust Holdo, so he went full-tilt against her without listening to anything she had to say or accepting that she didn't have to tell him anything as a superior officer. I hate using "he didn't back down from the dreadnought" as an example for almost every trait but it's his entire character in summary. He does this often with superior officers — it happened in the New Republic, too. If people don't tell him what he wants to hear, he doesn't listen.

+ Attitude - He doesn't know when to stop. He mouths off to everyone. He mouthed off to Kylo Ren while Kylo Ren was torturing him. He acts insolent to any and all superior officers, even including his beloved Leia Organa.

+ Temperamental - He lets his anger get the best of him all the time. He throws a temper tantrum and breaks things in The Last Jedi.

Character Fears: He has real, legitimate PTSD about torture and telepathy.

Powers/Abilities: No "powers", but!

He's a pilot, first and foremost. Some might even say (and have said) the best in the galaxy. He prides himself on being able to "fly anything."

In Poe Dameron's Flight Log, he talks about jury-rigging pod racer engines to farm equipment, so he has some level of mechanical aptitude and is presumably able to do repairs and modifications to ships.

He has a military background, so he's competent with strategy and fighting (with a blaster).

Personal Item: He has a small (much smaller than a guitar) robot that was gifted to him by Oliver Hampton in Futurology: I made an info post about it here.
