Why do people keep pets? What's the purpose?

Companionship, I think. It's a lot to ask someone to be around for you all the time, so some people get animals to keep them from feeling lonely. Or if you live on a farm, sometimes you have pets to help you with tasks, like herding or keeping pests away.

That makes sense. So they're kind of like droids?

Exactly! Most of them aren't as talkative as droids, though. Or if they are, we can't understand them. Why, are you thinking about getting a pet?

I don't think I'd be very good at keeping it alive.

I could help you with it. I've never really had a pet before — I think BB-8 would get jealous, and I was never in one place long enough. But, between the two of us, I bet we could keep a pet alive.

what's the karking point of these EROS profiles?

To make new friends without having to go out and meet them in person. It helps if you're more shy, or you could see someone on EROS you'd never see in your daily life because you work in different places, have separate social circles, something like that.
