IT'S IMPOSSIBLE, OKAY. poe refuses to believe it. if he could be like "all is forgiven if you just Do Better" after he ran away from home, he can't hold a grudge against a stormtrooper who defected. those are just cold hard facts.

[ so poe just wants to check out his ass now that that's on the table. that's how it is.

without their super homosexual teamwork they would probably be dead by now. it's nice to be able to fall back on that so easily. it really is about the trust in it. poe won't let him beef it because poe never has, and finn would never let poe beef it. they just have that synergy.

it is not... finn's soberest or smoothest climb in history. there is definitely at least one point where poe doesn't have to save him from dying, strictly, but save him from making a weird foothold error or something that would put a damper on this occasion. at-at hookups aren't as fun with a broken nose. at least not the long-premeditated kind of at-at hookup.

he's making it up to the escape hatch in one piece. that's the important thing. he's taking a quick breather once he's there, though. ]

finn, of course, unraveled only the worst possible scenarios to come out of this. his finest form yet. he stuck the disaster landing.

 [ he shrugs a little. he may have forced other people to bring their parents out of retirement to fight for the resistance (cough snap's stepdad wedge antilles) but he sure did not include his own dad. maybe kes hurt his leg and is mulan's dad. maybe he didn't want to ask because he's an understandably selfish gremlin??? unsolved mysteries. ]

Look, he's... my dad is the best person I know. There are times I thought he'd never forgive me and he still did, you know? I know it's because he's my dad, but it doesn't not... mean anything. He's gonna like you. I know he is.

it's that otter synergy. that feeling connected. he will save finn from any and all foot misplacements. that said, it's a relief to slide on down the hatch into at-at territory. ]

[ finn is welcome to take a breather while he drops the still rolled up blanket down and raps against some of the paneling with his fist. just testing the sturdiness. seems pretty solid? like it won't tragically collapse on them. ]

I've always been curious what it's like in one of these. I've seen diagrams, but not the real thing.

[ star wars writers: we sort of forgot that poe had a canonical veteran father.

finn makes a face. it's a rare day when he doesn't make a face, because he is dramatic.

han solo was so easy... he just constantly argued with and judged him, which han probably missed having in his daily life after packing up a bindle and going back to his family-free depression mode. finn was in peak stressed form. no room for hero worship or thinking about his choices.

right now it's like, at all costs he must not approach this man like he would approach han solo. this is a parent parent. a parent in the parent position. not like a fellow soldier in the trenches becoming a friend who also happens to be older and have kids. a person poe always talks about as being a good and kind and wise person and a great dad.

someone... who deserves manners. ]

I'll settle for not not liking me. [ neutral is still in the safety zone. he can have a sustainable farm with poe and their droid children in his fantasies if his imaginary father in law is ambivalent.

finn gives poe's shoulder a squeeze. the intricate rituals... it occurred to him that he might be infecting poe with anxieties over a simple human interaction. ]

Even if he does have a problem, it's okay. Okay? I'm not gonna take it personally.

[ he doesn't want poe to worry that he'll think kes dameron is a jerk if he ends up going "i kinda don't want an ex-stormtrooper on my couch."

when someone has beef with him when they hear where he's from, it's usually just that they have a larger and more complex beef with the first order. which is a beef that finn also has. realistically, the hostile part doesn't usually last long before they're all doing epic handshakes about how much fascists suck.

it's never been an actual personal thing.

he actually kinda feels better reminding himself of that.

if he hadn't skipped his homework and had read all the sequel trilogy supplementary material, of course, he'd know that kes is a scholar and a saint and all this worrying has been for nothing. ]

[ his eyebrows raise like "??? finn you're being silly my dude" but then he digs through his memory rolodex to when he first met leia like "oh... yeah. that checks. relatable content." ]

He won't have a problem. And if he does, I'll take it personally. 

[ he WILL throw down with his dad over his uh... friend... who he likes a lot. his super friendly friend. (can't believe there aren't any spare beds in the house so they'll have to share his bed.) ]

It'll be fine. We're gonna have dinner, maybe spend the night, then grab supplies in the morning. You can handle a dinner, right?

[ if things go wrong, they can sleep on the falcon honestly. poe will make up some excuse about being sick. he is trying to mastermind every bandersnatch option at this dinner. it all depends on two of the most important people in his life getting along. ]

[ the lack of ominous creaking is a good sign. finn appreciates that much about this at-at. less sandy inside than outside. nice acoustics.

he opts not to think about the fact that at some point they will have to climb back out of here. that's a later problem. ]

I've never been inside any of these old ones. [ finn doesn't smack the paneling so much as he pats it. he might be doing it as an excuse to stand even more in poe's personal bubble while poe is nerding out. ] It's not too bad.

This is the main seating area, right? [ whoa that's weird how all the personal space between them suddenly evaporated. where did it go??? ] So this would be... the garage is this way, right? And that's the cockpit?

[ he gestures back and forth and then ruins whatever electrically charged moment was about to happen by dashing towards the cockpit, his steps clanging and echoing behind him. he's ready for pleasure town, but he also needs a minute to be a fuckin nerd. ]

[ When he starts to struggle she sits back a little, just observing and not trying to stop him. Perhaps if he gets it out of his system now he'll be less likely to struggle and fight her later. Not that it ultimately matters, she's going to get what she wants regardless, but as time passes it's increasingly interesting to her what does and doesn't merit fighting against.

The comment earns a warm, almost flirtatious laugh from her. ]

Oh, I've certainly got you under control.

[ As if to further prove her point she reaches a hand out for her belt and uses it to securely attach the cuffs to the headboard, or at least securely enough for the time being. She hums a little sound of content as she trails her hands down his arms, and leans down, seeming like she's going to kiss him again but then changes her mind. ]

Should I choke you now and we'll see just how quickly you get hard? [ Her fingers brush the base of his throat, stroking the tender skin. ] Last time was, mmm, most enjoyable for both of us.

[ It's tempting but there's plenty of other options on her mind. She bends her head to graze her teeth along his collarbone and she starts to make her way down his body, her hands leading the way. A brush of lips here, a nip of teeth there. Taking her time since this is the first she's gotten to really explore.

One of her hands curls around the length of him, almost lazily stroking him. She presses a kiss to his hip and lifts her head enough to look up the length of his body at him. She's sure if she asked he'd claim he was hating every moment, but was he really? Her lips curl in a sly grin and she stops her stroking as she moves her head to lick at him once, twice, and then wraps her lips around the tip as she delicately teases him with her tongue. ]
