[since there's downtime while they're waiting for finn's condition to improve and, as sad as it is, life still must go on, poe decides to take rey on a little trip. it's been a minute since he's been back home to yavin 4 and he really wants to go to the family ranch and stock up on koyo fruit. he really fuckin loves koyo fruit okay, don't be judgy. and since rey seems very into things that are green and also food, he thinks she'll have a nice time. as he lands the ship and they start to get out, he announces:]

Well, this is it. Welcome to where I grew up. [they're basically surrounded by greenery and there's a mountain range in the distance. it's pretty sweet.]

[ after growing up in basically a barren wasteland, the worlds she's been to since this all started have been new and foreign to her. delightfully so. sometimes.

and when poe dameron offered to show her somewhere else, she leapt at the chance, desperate for the distraction, needing to stop thinking about how much things are changing, will change, how much pressure is on her shoulders.

when she climbs out of the ship, she looks around, looking very much like a child seeing something for the first time.] It's beautiful. [ her nose wrinkles.] The air is so... sticky. [ compared to the oppressively dry air of jakku, this place was downright humid.]

That's humidity. [he laughs, taking in her wonderment and enjoying it almost as much as he enjoys being home in general.] I guess that's not really a thing on Jakku, huh? Not too much of a thing on D'Qar either, not where we were. C'mon, I can show you around. [he starts leading the way through the field where they landed.] Are you hungry?

[ She nods eagerly at his question, moving to follow him because, well, she's always hungry. More than a few of the pilots watched in amazement the first day she was on the rebel base when she at at least three rations worth of food without breaking a sweat.

Food and fresh food was still a novelty to her. Nothing grew on Jakku, everything was compressed and imported.]

What sort of food is there here?

Everything. Name it, I can get it for you. [but he realizes she only may know like five foods so he'll help.] My favorite's the koyo melons.

[ poe knows what's up; he wasn't expecting casanova skill from finn, so it's fine. it's perfect because it's exactly how he imagined it. it's rough and messy and he is living. the hand that was participating in handholding wrenches (delicately since it's his injured arm) free, because he wants to dedicate both hands to grabbing finn's face. the only thing he didn't expect is finn is … softer that he imagined? guess that's what happens when you live in that stormtrooper armor for so long. and then the whole bacta bag thing. whatever, it's nice. ]

[ to come to finn's makeshift resistance vessel that isn't actually his and then to pull away from his hand..... bold choice.

who am i kidding he's touch starved as hell he'll live with hands on his face and it'll still basically be the emotional version of plants soaking up sunbeams. plus the movement helps remind him that oh yeah, he also has body parts that are not a face.

finn sits himself up a little straighter and brings his big dumb floppy hands into this mess-- one to card its way through poe's stupid really good hair, and the other one maybe just ends up on top of one of poe's hands somewhere. because he loves him and he's allowed and he wants to have hands on for when they have to like. breathe. gotta pregame. ]

but poe is all about it, tbh, please put your hand in his unruly mop of curls. he only pulls away when he literally cannot go another moment without breathing or he'll die. but this would be a pretty awesome way to die, tbh, so maybe he would be okay with it.

he catches his breath, a sharp inhale accompanied by a chuckle and quiet words:] I wanted to do that for so long. [he thinks about saying they could go someplace else but like. the falcon is pretty close quarters and no one will probably bother them here so. it's fine. instead of using his brain anymore, he goes back in for round two.]
