Did I — I don't think I've told you about my droid, have I? Not Spyder, my droid back home. BB-8. He could interface with my ship. He was sort of like my copilot. And he means more than anything to me.
[ he would run across no man's land like lando calrissian for bb-8. he would throw himself in between bb-8 and a blaster if he had to.
he really loves his son. ]
People argue about how much droids feel. But the way I look at it? Droids aren't alive the same way as me, for example, but they're still conscious. Like you said, they learn and adapt to things over time. They have personalities, likes and dislikes, all that. BB-8 has more personality than half the people I know. Just because their personalities are part programming, doesn't make it any less real.
You're real, Rosie. Don't let anybody tell you different.
[ She can tell that he does. It's clear in his voice and fond expression he wears when he speaks about BB-8. It's very touching. It's... the most warm she's ever seen anyone talk about an AI or otherwise here on Zhautas. The only one might have come close to treating like more than just a helper bot before the volunteers was Jeneviere.
For all the ways that Quintalian praised her ingenuity, it was in a roundabout way often complimenting himself as her designer. He was always the first to remind her that she was only a collection of code, too. It had never bothered her. That was just how it was.
She was a machine and nothing more. Being "real" wasn't... It was never something she had fathomed, until now. A lot of things weren't true until now. But part of her is still uncertain. ]
Okay. I'll... do my best to keep that in mind, for the future.
