[ a part of her remains reluctant to let poe out of her sight. to let finn out of her sight. they might try to escape. finn, more than poe. but if this is going to work, she'll have to eventually, and …

she knows it will hold. in her bones, she can feel it. the force telling her that this is safe and done, finally. she claps one hand on finn's arm, holding her smile. ]

I'll leave you to it, then. Come find me when you're done, and I'll show Poe his new quarters. The sooner we can get started, the better.

[Sometimes, people were idiots, and if they saw the Resistance's best pilot just wandering around, well...

...Rey would probably destroy them, but Finn would rather avoid that kind of problem altogether. He glances over at Rey, still unsure, but if she's gonna let them go alone for a while, Finn is going to use that time to figure out Poe, to see where they stand.

To see if they have any hope left at all or if this is what he's left with, making the best of a really bad situation.]

[poe seems ... unconcerned. so that's cool. that's his new vibe. also, he's just going to say that out loud, since he arrived to the same conclusion. ]

If anyone wanted to try anything towards me, Rey would take care of it.

[he glances over at rey too, like ah yes my best friend who's going to save the galaxy. not someone i was vehemently angry at for trying to destroy the galaxy earlier today.]

Don't worry so much. Everything's gonna be fine. [he takes his other hand, the one that isn't participating in handholding, and uses it to touch finn's face, cupping his cheek in his palm.]

[ a calm settles over rey's expression with poe's affirmation. she makes the briefest of eye contact with finn, as if to impress upon him how true that is of them both — that she would protect them, that all of this had always been to protect them — and turns to excuse herself from their company for now. ]

[Finn's gaze flicks to Rey and he simply nods ever so slightly in response. Out of everything, this is probably the one thing he believes fully, that Rey is trying her best to protect them.

He's just not sure if that's what's resulted in all of this in the first place.

Rey starts to leave and Finn's gaze returns to Poe, whose hand is warm against his cheek.]

I worried about you a lot. It's hard to just turn that off. [He's still worried, but he's here, and that's a start.] Come on, I'll show you around and you can rest if you want.

Okay. Sure. [his hand peels away from finn's face, but they're still holding hands. still otters. once rey is gone, he admits — ]

I know what you mean. I worried about you, too. I was so — I didn't know what was gonna happen to you on here. I'd make myself sick thinking about it. [he didn't think rey would kill her best friend but he hadn't thought she was gonna do all this wild shit either and yet here they were. who's to say she wouldn't have slipped up one day and accidentally force choked finn too hard or some shit???]

But we're here now, and we're okay, so I'm trying to think of that, you know? It finally feels like things are gonna be better.
