[ It seems unkind to presume the primary motivator is this ruse, but she can't help it. This is the framework she has. Poe Dameron is just Cassian Andor to her, but not because he's space latino, just because he'd do anything for the rebellion. And it's for the best, really. He should do anything for the rebellion. She's just nervous and cagey because, well.

She's having skype dates with the Supreme Leader and probably her new fiancé will decide that's not best for the rebellion. At a certain point, it feels like starting this up with Poe is putting herself in hot water drawing attention to her weird lapses into hallucinating Kylo Ren. ]

[ it's mostly for the ruse, but ... now he feels a little badly about treating her as a simple means to an end. rey is a person and should be treated like one. even if they don't agree on everything, maybe they could at least try to agree on a couple things? they both like finn. and piloting. maybe they have the same favorite color.

maybe if he got close enough to her he could discover The Truth 👀 he's not shrewd enough for that to be his first thought, but it did occur to him once he worked down his list as a sort of afterthought. he will get the truth about kylo ren one way or another. ]

[ Wow. 'I could eat.' He says it so casually, as if he doesn't even recognize that for some people, they literally can't. It's not a matter of 'I'm in the mood to.' It leaves her sort of sullen and disconnected for a moment. Culture shock.

[ She turns to open the door, peeking out both ways up and down the hallway. From behind some corner, Rose appears.

[ god rey they just have portions that are basically lunchables. it's not a three-course meal.

anyway, he's taken out of whatever thought he may have been having (i.e., i wonder if there will be pizza lunchables or nacho lunchables today) by rose zooming in on both of them. hoo boy. this ... is not what he wanted, but it does give them a chance to corroborate their love affair. ]

just watch him keep this romcom ball rolling as he turns to rey and raises his eyebrows to innocuously reply with ] Oh … I thought we were gonna be alone.

[ She looks between them suddenly. It's painfully genuine when she asks: ] Do you want to be alone?

[ Rose's eyebrows are steadily climbing up her forehead like they're ready to break into orbit any minute now. ]

[ now that this is an actual performance they're putting on, he's getting a little into it. ]

[ he says it so delicately that rose is gonna shit herself tbh. ]

[ Oh. She figures it out then, and Rose leaps to intercede, sparing Rey a bad lie: 'I'm actually not hungry at all! You two go. Have fun! Be safe.'

And then she disappears around the corner. Rey looks back at Poe after she's gone. ]

I thought the point was to be seen together.

[ he says it to the tone of "duh." he's not a professional con man; he has this knowledge on the basis of he sure as hell wishes he was alone with finn right now. ]

[ Rey glances away from him. ]

I guess I wouldn't know. I haven't done this before.

[ That surely goes without stating doesn't it?? It's not like there's fucking okcupid on Jakku. Or, like, high school. ]

[ he wasn't drawing any wild assumptions that rey had been hitting up okcupid on jakku, he just hadn't ... taken that information completely in to think about what it meant. ]
