Is the Force broken?
[ the idea of telling her to get it herself is quelled by the threat she's carefully crafted here. even mouthing off is probably going to earn him a punishment one way or another, but the jab that he gives in the process of handing it over to her comes out before he can stop himself. ]
no subject
Releasing his wrist, she points to the spot beside her chair. ] Kneel. You're not obedient enough yet to merit the privilege of standing while your superiors discuss business. [ Even if the thought of him forced to stand at attention behind her chair while she gave orders to attack the very system he chose is one that pleases her. Making him remain present will be suitable enough. Present and kept within reach, in case she feels like reminding him of just how not in control he is of what happens to him. ]
no subject
the command to kneel is what really gets to him, though. continuing to treat him like some pet. the more he argues against it, the more she tries to enforce it. it was a lost cause to keep trying, he was sure, but not trying felt like watching more and more of himself slip away with resignation.
perhaps proving her point about obedience, he replies with a very decisive ]
I ain't doing that.
no subject
Surely you realize I was giving you a chance to behave on your own terms.
[ There's some muffled sounds outside the room, a sign that the officers involved in the meeting are shortly to arrive. If he thought she was joking about either her actually having a meeting or making him stay then he was sorely mistaken. One side of her mouth curls up in a smirk as she looks at him, finally moving her feet off the table and taking a more proper position in her chair. ]
I said to kneel, Dameron. [ Her tone shifts with the words, calling on her power to make it an order. ] Kneel beside my chair like a good boy and remain quiet unless you're spoken to. Am I understood?
no subject
Yes.
[ he glances up at her to give the reply. the word tastes like gravel. once the sound of the officers actually registers to him, something in his stomach clenches. more than enough people aboard had seen his general state of existence since being taken prisoner. that should have made being debased for the millionth time easier — wore away at some of his pride, perhaps, but it didn't. hadn't. ]

As the officers file in there's a few glances -- and poorly-hidden snickering -- directed at Poe. By now many on the ship are aware of their leader's "pet" but seeing as she hasn't started dragging him around with her or otherwise having him out and about, it's still a surprise to a degree for him to be present for something like this. Unsurprisingly, Hux takes the most interest in Poe's presence, and seems the most smug about the pilot's situation. The general takes a seat on the other side of the table at least.
The usual sort of routine reports start the meeting off. Nothing particularly exciting. There's mention of a small uprising being squashed in the Mid Rim, a progress report on the new dreadnought being built to replace the one destroyed above D'Qar, details on a successful raid on one of the more sizeable rebel cells mentioned in data taken from BB-8. Kylo spares a glance down at Poe when that subject comes up, though she otherwise practically ignores that he's there.
When it's time to discuss their next target, the system she brings up is the one Poe chose and not the one closer to his home or Yavin itself. He didn't make a fuss about having to make a decision and so she was content with going along with it.
As the meeting progresses things take a little turn when the topic of discussion shifts to how talks are progressing with the Hutt Cartel. Allies aren't a priority for the First Order, but some entities were easier to deal with by striking some kind of terms than insisting on attacking anyone and everyone. (A fact she had to practically beat into Hux but he accepted her strategy, eventually.) Besides, as the Cartel formerly had an arrangement with the Empire, it only seemed logical to seek similar means. The Hutts might not have as much influence as they once held but Hutt Space was still sizeable and it would be more convenient if the Order could travel through it freely. However, talks had been progressing quite slowly.
At mention of the council leader having sent a holo over Kylo becomes curious. Doubly so when the officer giving the report turns hesitant and glances at a few of the others who were already privy to the recording's contents. Their reason for concern quickly becomes clear when the holo is played. In it, the Hutt expresses doubts about the Order's current leader, going so far as to imply, in somewhat crude terms, that they would rather deal with Kylo in the same manner they dealt with her mother. It would seem that, unsurprisingly, the holo Kylo sent to the Resistance -- or at least the part where she revealed her parentage -- was making its rounds.
There's not an immediate response from Kylo. At least not a verbal one. Any sense of her relaxing or otherwise being at ease is gone now, replaced with tension and darkened eyes, her jaw set and one hand clenched on the armrest of her chair. ]
What assets do we have in the area? [ A thread of barely contained anger backs her words. ]
"A destroyer and a few accompanying ships, my lord."
Tell them to make ready.

poe stays still with head bowed through the briefing on the raid. knowing that the resistance had suffered a blow like that because of information they'd taken from him, from his droid, made bile rise up in his throat. he knows she's probably looking at him, which makes him all the more resolute to not look back.
at least she hadn't tried to bait and switch him about the system near yavin. it was some small relief. he lets a slow exhale out.
he only looks up, finally, when the holo that sets kylo on the warpath plays. he has a distinct feeling of not wanting to be in this room anymore, yet being stuck. they're just trying to bait her, and she's taking it. he wants to say something, but doesn't.
(he also doesn't want to say that the hutt cartel had been tenuously loaning ships and supplies out to the resistance — something recent enough to have been unincluded on the logs. it wasn't ideal, but they had so few allies anymore. it really was a matter of scraping up the dregs.)
so he glances up with a pinched expression and then glances away. ]
no subject
Turning her head, her narrowed eyes focus on Poe, not having caught his glance. ]
Do you have something to add, Dameron?
[ The room quiets but her attention doesn't shift from him. ]
no subject
No.
[ his eyes stay fixed on the ground as he bites at the inside of his cheek. he knew there was almost no chance of her leaving it alone, but he still wanted to hope. ]
no subject
Kylo reaches out to grab a handful of his hair and pulls his head back so she can better see his face. Her eyes run over his features searching for clues about what it is he isn't saying. ]
You reacted to the holo. Why? [ Her eyes narrow a touch more as she stares down at him. ] Don't test my patience.
no subject
They shouldn't've talked about you like that. It's unsavory. But Hutts are like that, I guess.
[ here he is, poe dameron in the clutch with a han solo-esque bullshit excuse. ]
no subject
No, they shouldn't have, and they will pay for doing so.
[ Hand returning to her chair, her attention shifts back to her officers and they fall back into discussing options. Well, if trying to propose suggestions that won't make the Hutts completely unwilling to deal with them while yet addressing Kylo's desire to inflict violence could be called 'discussing'. ]
no subject
he can now add this to the very, very short list of things that have actually worked out in his favor since being taken prisoner.
he quickly tries to clamp his emotions down. let everything wash away. stay calm. getting away with lying to kylo ren's face wasn't going to pan out if he started immediately radiating relief vibes.
while sitting there listening trying to be cool, he also notes that kylo is more of a loose cannon than he'd previously thought. is it useful information to him right now? not really. but it's one more piece of useful information than what he'd had before. ]
no subject
Anything else left to be discussed will have to be tended to at a later date, when the Order's leader isn't silently seething. Not that there had been much left that needed to be addressed; someone clearly foresaw the meeting potentially getting derailed.
She dismisses the officers and as they file out significantly quieter than when they entered barely any attention is paid to Poe. Soon enough the two of them are alone again, Kylo having sank back against her chair with the tablet in hand, staring intently at information on where her forces will be attacking in the coming days. In her anger she has half a mind to take part herself. A little bloodshed and murder could do wonders for her mood at times.
If there was any illusion about her seeming to calm, it's broken when the tablet loudly cracks from her gripping it so tightly and she flings it across the room to shatter against the wall. ]
no subject
So, uh... can I stand up now? I'm gonna stand up now.
[ true to his word, his stands up. he's very eager to stand up, so that he can put some space between her and himself. he doesn't expect to be able to leave the room; he's just hoping to be a little farther away from the line of fire. ]
no subject
I don't recall giving you permission to go anywhere. [ Her eyes narrow at him and she stands herself, pushing the chair away from her harder than necessary but it just barely keeps from falling over. Stepping around to stand in front of him, her gaze searches his features for a moment. ] In a hurry to go back to your room? To run away?
[ She makes another gesture, releasing him, and her expression turns challenging. ] Go on, I dare you to. Run away like you're just another scared rat that makes up the Resistance.
no subject
Is this a trick? This is a trick, right?
[ sure, he'd love to run, but he doesn't think he'd get very far. even if it was just to his room. stormtroopers would tase him. which is not where he wanted to be, considering last time he was tased. ]
You want me to run away.
[ that said, he does still take a couple steps back. every inch of him his tense and coiled. ]
no subject
Her lips twist in a dark smirk and she echoes his steps to close the distance between them. ] Would I trick you? [ As if they both don't know the obvious answer to that.
While she might have a modicum of control at the moment, that didn't solve the matter of needing to vent. It never ended well for anyone if her volatile emotions were kept bottled up until they couldn't be contained any longer. On a different day some passing stormtrooper or lesser officer might fall victim to her anger -- and one still might -- but why should she go looking when she has a target right in front of her?
Kylo reaches a hand out but it's not to grab him either physically or with the Force. It likely appears a bit too similar for comfort to what she did back in his interrogation when she forced her way into his mind. Only this time she's not seeking his thoughts but his emotions. The darkness in her thinks he seems too calm and she wants to get that adrenaline going, like when he foolishly tried to escape from her before. ]
Are you afraid of me, Poe? Do you fear what I could do? What might happen to you?
no subject
in that respect, she gets what she wants. adrenaline courses through him as he keeps stepping back. is he going towards the door? he doesn't know, because his vision is tunneling. ]
No. No, I'm not. I don't.
[ this is clearly not the truth, but he can't make the real words come out. he can't admit that much weakness, even though she no doubt already knows. ]
no subject
But -- she doesn't want to break his mind, and it could be so easy to do accidentally when she played with fear. She'll have to sate her urges a different way. ]
Don't lie to me, Poe. I don't like it when people lie.
[ Having enough of his backpedaling, Kylo curls her fingers to stop his movement and jerks her hand to the side, using her telekinesis to throw him toward the table. She strides after him and doesn't hesitate to get in his personal space as soon as she's able to, seeking to pin him between the table and her body. One of her hands grabs his hip, and she absently wets her lips at the emotions she can feel coming off of him. ]
You seemed to be very open and honest with that droid of yours. I've learned all kinds of things about you. Some very useful things.
no subject
of course, he didn't account for being telekinetically flung into the table, either. his arms scramble to grab at the table for support, only to find himself pinned. instead, he grabs at her wrist and tries to pry her hand off his hip. he's not entirely sure he can get away, but it doesn't have to be like this. ]
Oh yeah? Anything good?
no subject
[ Kylo leans against him, ignoring his clear desire for her not to touch him. For the moment she doesn't stop him pulling her hand off his hip, mostly because she curls her other arm around him and splays that hand low on his stomach. ]
Some juicy details buried within those logs of yours. I understand now the reason for your inexperience. [ She taunts, her voice low, as her hand drifts south. ] It's given me a few new ideas as well. [ Yes and no, really; nothing that hadn't crossed her mind already but now shifted around on her mental 'to do' list. Not that he needs to know that. ]
no subject
I feel like we could do with a little less of your ideas.
no subject
You'd like that, wouldn't you, Dameron? If I were utterly uncreative and uninterested in what makes you tick.
The thing is, right now quite honestly I'm not interested in what you want.
[ He does get a brief reprieve from her touch as she moves to take her cloak off, simply for the fact of not wanting the excess fabric to get in her way. But then her hands are back on him as she tries to push him outright onto the table instead of bend him over it. She can't do exactly what she wants (which only serves to feed her irritation) since the setting only allows for so many options and she hadn't expected anything in the meeting to set her off, but she'll make do. ]
no subject
now, what she's doing to him is pushing him back onto the table. he's still latching onto the idea of sliding off the table and escaping if given half a chance, even though he already knows he wouldn't make it out the door. especially not with the erratic mood swings he's witnessed from kylo ren today.
(he's learning.) ]
Oh, yeah, no, I can tell that. It's never much about me here.
